GROUND PIMENTO (GROUND ALLSPICE)
Pack Size: 40g
Ground Pimento (Also known as Allspice, Jamaican Pepper and Myrtle Pepper) comes from the Pimenta Dioica plant. The allspice berries are picked when they are green and unripe, they are then left in the sun to be dried out, turning them brown. Its taste is said to be a blend of spices, Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Cloves, giving it the pimento allspice name. Pimento Spice is a primary ingredient in Jamaican Jerk Seasoning.
Pimento can be primarily found in the Caribbean and Central American cuisines such as Mexican. It can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes, commonly used to make jerk chicken. We recommend adding ground allspice to baked goods to add some fragrance and a pepper tinge. We propose adding it to Cookies, Pumpkin Pie, gingerbread and cakes.

History / Origins
The Pimento Berry, which comes from the Pimenta Dioica plant, is part of the Myrtle Family, and originates from tropical areas in Southern Mexico and Central Caribbean. It is now cultivated all around the world in tropical climates. However, Jamaica is still one of the largest exports of Pimento.
In 1494 European explorers brought Pimento to Europe, mistaking it for pepper. In 1621 the British coined the name 'Allspice' due to its flavour, a combination of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg.
